ARL: Tables of Contents
System Definition. Grete Pasch, January 19, 1998.

This figure illustrates the current functioning of the web-based data entry interface.  Articles for each institution are stored in separate files, which are consolidated periodically and uploaded into the Oracle database.  If you are interested in the details of how the various files interact, or if you need to make changes to the programs or database, please read the  Data Definition Details. You can also see the number of sessions logged by users of the interface.

The current prototype of the data entry interface module consists of cgi scripts programmed in Perl. The data transfer process is a separate Perl script (makeinsert) that gathers all data entry files and creates three output files: one for updating all articles in the database (loadart), one containing journal information (loadjrl) and a file that lists any errors or special conditions encountered during the process (loaderr). This process is run once or twice every month, or whenever needed.
