Premio Aztlan is a national literary prize established in 1993 for the
purpose of encouraging and rewarding writers at the onset of their
careers. This premio, to be awarded in Spring 2000, is $2000.

Any writer or publisher may submit five copies of a work of fiction
published in 1999. Writers at the beginning of their careers are defined
as those who have only two books of fiction in publication. The 1999
publication may be the second book. The writer's current vita must also
be submitted. The vita must clearly show all of the writer's
publications.

Books and vita must be received by December 1, 1999. The award will be
made in Spring 2000 and winner will present a public reading at the
University of New Mexico.

Prior winners may not submit again. Any questions related to entries will
be decided by the judges. The judges may decide not to award a premio.

Premio Aztlan was established by Patricia and Rudolfo Anaya. Generous
contributions from Gary Soto and Sandra Cisneros are helping to fund the
1999 premio.
