Latino Book & Family Festival

Edward James Olmos, actor and community
activist, will present the first Chicago Latino Book & Family
Festival, a weekend event that promotes literacy, culture and
education in a fun environment for the whole family. The 1999
festival will be held November 20 and 21 at Sportsman's Park,
3301 South Laramie Avenue, Cicero, Illinois.
The event, which is free to the public courtesy of
presenting sponsor Target Stores, will be open from 10 a.m.
to 8 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
The festival will feature dozens of authors, educational
workshops, book signings, poetry readings, childrenís events,
live entertainment, food and hundreds of exhibitor booths.
Panel discussions will focus on a variety of
topics, including:
The art of Spanish/English fiction, non-fiction, childrenís
literature
Americanos - based on the book and moderated by Edward James Olmos
How to buy a house
Health solutions for the new millennium
The Latino Book & Family Festival was launched in 1997 in Los
Angeles to promote literacy, culture and education and to provide
people of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to celebrate
the diversity of the multicultural communities in the United States
in a festival atmosphere.
The 1999 Los Angeles festival drew 48,500 visitors, with 704
exhibitors, making it the largest Latino consumer trade show in
the United States. This is the first time the event will be held in
the Chicago area.
