10th Annual Binational Communication Conference
Chula Vista, California
May-7-8, '99
Southwestern College is hosting the 10th annual Binacom event, May 7-8, an
international encounter that celebrates visual and linguistic communication
along
the U.S. and Mexican borders. Sponsored by the Binational Association, an
organization promoting bicultural experience by recognizing the impact of mass
media, telemedia, photography and art media.
Students, faculty and administrators from the San Diego County and the
Northern Baja California region are invited to participate in a dialogue to
exchange ideas about the future of international affairs between these
countries. The theme of this year's conference is "The Global Village in the
Digital Age. "With the increasing accessibility of information found on the
web and potential consumer markets on these fronts, bilingual communication is
opening new fields of vision.
Those who wish to attend must register by April 30. Entry for both days
is $25 and $13 for single day entry. Translators will be provided for the
event.
Guest speakers include Dr. John Pavlik from the University of Columbia and
Dr. Jose Carlos Lozano Rendon from the Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios
Superiores de Monterrey.
Institutions participating in the event include, the Autonomous University
of Baja California at Mexicali; Autonomous University of Baja California at
Tijuana; the Northwest Iberoamerican University at Tijuana; Southwestern
College; San Diego City College; San Diego State University (SDSU); the
University of San Diego (USD); and the University of California at San Diego
(UCSD).
