HUMAN RIGHTS INTERNSHIPS IN ARGENTINA
Derechos Human Rights has created an internship program in collaboration
with Human Rights NGOs and government organizations in Argentina. All the
internships for the time being are in Buenos Aires. The internships offer
interns the opportunity to gain practical experience in human rights work,
while supporting the very important work of human rights organizations. We
invite all those interested to apply, and we thank you for your interest.
AVAILABLE INTERNSHIPS
1 - Familiares de Desaparecidos y Detenidos por Razones Politicas
http://www.desaparecidos.org/familiares/
Familiares is an organization that gathers families of the disappeared in
Argentina. During the military dictatorship they worked for the freedom
of all political prisoners and the appearance of the disappeared. They now
work to keep the memory of the disappeared alive, and to demand truth and
justice. They have one of the most important archives about the dirty war
in Argentina.
Interns are sought to help Familiares to organize, classify and digitize
the Familiares archive. Interns should have an interest in the history of
the repression in Argentina, and have solid organizational and computer
skills. Interns should have a working knowledge of Spanish, and be ready
to work for at least two months in this project.
2 - Comision de Derechos Humanos de la Legislatura de la Ciudad de Buenos
Aires (Human Rights Commission of the Buenos Aires City Legislature)
The purpose of the Human Rights Commission is to protect the rights of
Buenos Aires residents and to propose legislation vis a vis citizen's
rights. This includes legislation on security issues, education, consumer
protection and human rights. The Human Rights Commission is also in
charge of the Monument to the Victims of State Terrorism, a new project
that will keep the memory of the disappeared alive in Argentina.
Interns are sought to help legislators with different projects and bills
vis a vis citizens' rights and to participate in the enactment of the
Monument. Interns should have at least a working knowledge of Spanish as
well as solid computer skills. Interns with knowledge or interest in
political, social and economic rights are specially welcome, as are those
with previous legislative experience.
