Mass Communication Theory & Research / Media Effects

The Department of Communication at the University of
Massachusetts/Amherst invites applications for a tenure-track position
as Assistant Professor with responsibilities for teaching/research in
the area of Mass Communication Theory & Research / Media Effects.

We seek a scholar pursuing an active program of empirical research on
issues relating to the role of television and/or new media in the lives
of children, adolescents, families, and/or other social groups. Areas
of emphasis may include media content patterns, media use and child
development, or media impacts. Ability to teach quantitative research
methods at the graduate level is desirable.

The Department is located in the College of Social and Behavioral
Sciences and offers BA, MA, and PhD programs on a multi-cultural
campus. Completed PhD required for Sept. 1, 1999 appointment.
Excellence in teaching (at all levels of the curriculum, from large
undergraduate lectures to advanced graduate seminars), and evidence of
scholarly promise expected. Salary is competitive. The position is
contingent upon funding.
