POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Eastern Migrant Stream Coordinator
The Stream Coordinator will be primarily responsible for coordination with
state Primary Care Associations (PCA), Cooperative Agreements (CA), migrant
health centers, and state agencies involved with migrant health and
farmworker issues to enhance efforts to improve access to health and social
services for farmworkers.
The Stream Coordinator will also be responsible for contact with federal
agencies involved in migrant health and farmworker issues, report on state
issues, and help formulate policy based on field experience and expertise.
The Coordinator will work with the US Public Health Service Regional
Offices, Bureau of Primary Health Care (Migrant Health Program),
ombudspersons, National Advisory Council on Migrant Health, and other
federal agencies such as Departments of Labor, Education, Agriculture, etc.
1.Works through existing and ongoing state-based efforts to define
farmworker issues/priorities. State-based efforts include the PCAs, CAs,
state councils and task forces. An advisory group for the Eastern Stream
Migrant Coordinator will be responsible for selection of stream-wide
priorities from projected outcomes.
2.In the absence of no established state-based priorities, the coordinator
will help initiate state-based efforts to establish an agenda, beginning
with SPCAs and CAs, and when appropriate, coordinating councils, health
centers and other agencies.
3.Facilitates interagency and interstate coordination and collaboration to
serve migrant farmworkers.
4.Coordinator will travel throughout the migrant stream to identify issues
and trends among farmworkers and their families.
5.Develop strategies to identify resources to alleviate problems and
conditions within the stream.
6.Coordinator will advise the Public Health Service regarding the unmet
needs of the migrant farmworker community, including but not limited to
issues of housing, environmental and health.
7.Serves as a "bridge builder" and able to cross organizational and
disciplinary lines based on knowledge of contemporary migrant/farmworker
health issues.
8.Develops strategies dealing with increased Medicaid access for
farmworkers, e.g., Medicaid reciprocity and Medicaid enrollment.
Reports to:
Executive Director for day-to-day supervision related to employment and
project direction.
Advises Bureau of Primary Health Care on policy issues related to migrant
health, in general.
Minimum qualifications required include a Bachelor's degree and three years
farmworker service related experience. Master's level preparation is
preferred.
Advantages include being bilingual and bicultural with first hand
experience working with human service organizations and farmworker
populations. Prior state, regional, or national level involvement
recommended.
Must be a high energy level person who can demonstrate commitment to
creating positive change on behalf of the farmworker population.
Strong written and verbal skills required.
