Cuban Exiles to be Tried in Miami
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- A federal judge has granted a petition allowing
seven Cuban exiles accused of trying to assassinate President Fidel
Castro to be tried in Miami.
The incident occurred in Puerto Rico in 1997. Observers say the change
of venue would make it easier for the exiles' defense attorneys to seat
a more sympathetic jury. Six of the seven charged are from Miami. The most
notable of these suspects is Jose Antonio Llama, a 68-year-old businessman
and board member of the far-right Cuban-American Foundation.
