I would agree with Luis Fierro with his first choice of Isabel Allende,
especially for an introductory course, but I would choose "De amor y de
sombra," (Of Love and Shadows). The content is socio-political and it's
probably her most well written book (it holds together better because it
has a definite "plot.")
I'm encouraged by the fact that we all seem to have read many of the same
books!
