Subject: Personal as political LATAM novel

An autobiography of a Braziliana that my "Women in Latin America"
class reacted well to was Carolina Maria de Jesus's _Child of the Dark_ (NY:
Penguin, 1963). She lives in the Sao Paulo favela, and records her
suffering and emotional as well as proactive responses. Additionally, its a
short (120 pages) book.
