The Social Programs and Sustainable Development Department (SDS) of the
Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has launched a new web site focusing
on environmental and social development in Latin America, that might be of
interest to researchers and specialists in the region. The web site is
located at the following URL address: http://www.iadb.org/sds
The SDS web site provides access to information on strategies, policies,
best practices, guidelines and publications related to: social programs,
the environment, rural development, indigenous peoples, community
development, women's issues, microenterprise, infrastructure investment
and financial markets in Latin America.
The web site also includes the latest news on conferences and events related
to these topics, as well as information on special programs for
microenterprise development, sustainable energy, agricultural technology,
indigenous people's and women's leadership and representation.
The site also provides on-line texts and abstracts of publications,
information on how to request additional publications, links to IDB staff
and consultants, and links to related web sites. The site is available in
English and Spanish.
The Social Programs and Sustainable Development Department (SDS) is one of
the central departments of the IDB. It helps translate the IDB's goal of
sustainable development into practical reality by providing technical
support to Bank project teams and through its work on sectoral strategies,
policies, best practices and publications. SDS includes the following
Divisions and Units: Environment, Social Programs, and Infrastructure and
Financial Markets Divisions; and Women in Development, Indigenous Peoples
and Community Development, and Microenterprise Units.
We recommend using Netscape 2.0 or higher, or MS Internet Explorer 2.0 or
higher to view the web site, and setting your PC display to a minimum of
"256 colors". Please feel free to send any comments and suggestions to
each individual division or unit.

El Departamento de Programas Sociales y Desarrollo Sostenible (SDS) del
Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID) ha generado un sitio web en
Internet, enfocado en el desarrollo social y ambiental sostenible en
America Latina, que puede resultar de interes para los investigadores y
especialistas en la region. El "sitio web" se encuentra localizado en la
siguiente direccion: http://www.iadb.org/sds
El sitio web de SDS provee acceso a informacion sobre estrategias, politicas,
practicas optimas, lineamientos y publicaciones sobre los siguientes
temas: programas sociales, medio ambiente, desarrollo rural, pueblos
indigenas y desarrollo comunitario, temas de la mujer, microempresas,
inversion en infraestructura y mercados financieros en America Latina.

El Departamento de Programas Sociales y Desarrollo Sostenible (SDS) es uno
