As part of ongoing efforts to bolster scholarly communication via the
Internet among the Latinamericanist community, the University of Texas'
Latin American Network Information Center (UT-LANIC) will be hosting an
Internet/PC Training Center at the LASA97 Congress, to be held April 17-19
in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Through the Center, Congress participants will be able to chose from a
broad program of workshops, hands-on training sessions, and demonstrations
of electronic resources for Latinamericanists. The program will include
sessions in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Training components will
include the use of electronic mail, mailing lists and Newsgroups, WWW
browsing, search strategies, and HTML. During the demonstration sessions,
representatives from approximately 25 Latin American studies content
providers (Internet or CD-ROM) will give detailed presentations of their
materials and services. Please note that seating is limited for many of
these sessions, so early registration is encouraged.
