It appears that my last posting has irritated Mr. Story's
exceedingly tender cutis. Lest it do the same to other subscribers,
I feel bound to express my deep regrets and to beg their abiding
forgiveness. As might be recalled my comments that have so
wounded the delicate sensibilities of Mr Story, simply asked the
rhetorical question:

As should be obvious to any reasonably discerning reader, they
singled out no one in particular; indeed, I intended them merely to
attract attention. Nonetheless, I must confess to being remiss in
failing to end the questionable sentence with the always de rigueur
"smiley" emoticon. I recognize this grave sin of omission, and
solemnly resign myself to suffer whatever penance the great gods of
cyberspace may choose to mete out.
Regarding the rest of Mr. Story's reply, he errs in stating that,

Eudora, or any other mail program that supports the MIME and
QUOTED PRINTABLE utilities, is most capable of transmitting
Spanish diacritical marks and other special characters to stateside
as well as overseas listservers. It transmits them in binary format
to the listserver, which in turn forwards the transmission. A
problem will arise, however, if a recipient's mail pgm. doesn't
support the two necessary utilities. For example my mail pgm.,
QUARTERDECK MESSAGE CENTER 2.0, does support MIME and
QUOTED PRINTABLE. Hence in the Spanish version of Ruckles's
original question, all the accents appeared in their appropriate
places on my screen.
I'm not at all sure what Mr. Story is driving at when he avers
that my post

To my knowledge, I didn't put any Spanish diacritical marks in that
missive, so its text is free of such ASCII codes as =E6 and the like.
Perhaps in his own tortured way he struggling to confess not
understanding fully what I said in it. If so, then I fear I've clumsily
touched another one of Mr. Story's divers open wounds.
On balance, I believe its contents ought to be reasonably
comprehensible to anyone with a novice's grasp of electronic
communication. Lamentably, technical writing tends to be complex,
no matter what one does to render it into layman's terms. If
someone has a clearer, more concise explanation than mine, I'll be
the first to welcome it. My skin is thick, and I'm not averse to
taking my lumps for venturing into what for me are still not the
most well-charted waters.
