I am currently looking for persons who have access to inter-active video
long-distance learning technology who would be interested in connecting
with my Spanish class next year to dialogue with the students on a given
topic. I am considering the following subjects:

Rain Forest destruction/motivating principles/concerns of native peoples
living in the forest/ US involvement/ future outlook/ persons involved
there or here with forest conservation other?

human rights issues esp. in Guatemala, a possible focus on Rigoberta
Menchu/ looking at the issues from all points of view/ cause-effect on
immigration.

Drug trafficking from Colombia--coffee economy to cocaine. Ramifications
for all concerned

Historical look at Maya and/or Inca. Inca and Maya today--struggle to
survive both as a culture and as a race.

The role of women in latino culture--what is has been, what it is
today--

I am open to suggestions. This a a grant from Ameritech. It pays for
time to develop curriculum and for presenting. I have had some
connections with the U. of Indiana this year with great success. The
above ideas are some I cover in my third year Spanish class.

Hope someone out there is interested!!
