next to their Center of Resistance.
>
>On Jan. 1, 1996 the EZLN inaugurated these Centers to maintain open
relationship with civil society nationally and internationally. They also
serve as focal points for direct humanitarian aid in the "conflict zone" for
specific projects such as production cooperatives, schools, health clinics,
cultural activities, etc.
>
>Support for the Centers of Resistance is crucial as the Mexican government
continues to isolate and harrass the indigenous communities that built them.
The Centers are a peaceful alternative to the state of seige or
low-intensity war the Mexican government carries out with its 40,000 troops,
the rape of women, and the harrassment of international visitors through the
Mexican immigration.
>
>Given the difficulty of travel to the Centers and the limitations in taking
material goods, that sometimes are not what the indigenous people need, we
are suggesting monetary donations. This gives the communities the autonomy
to acquire what they know is needed. Special requests for material support
will be announced.
>
> To ensure that monetary donations get to the Centers of Resistance:
>
>1) A delegation can be organized through the National Commission for
Democracy in Mexico (NCDM) that will help arrange contact with the Centers
of Resistance to directly take your donations. OR 2) Send monetary donations
to the "National Commission for Democracy in Mexico", 601 N. Cotton Street,
#A10, El Paso, Texas 79902, (915) 532-8382.
