I am very familiar with Mexico, having lived there for a few years. However,
I have never driven there, and I'm considering making the trip this summer.
I plan to drive my Ford pickup truck to Mexico City, and then make my way
toward the Costa Chica of Guerrero and Oaxaca.
Has anyone ever made the trip to central/southern Mexico by car? Do you have
any tips or suggestions for the novice? I'm considering traveling the free
roads (especially from D.F. to Acapulco to avoid the terribly expensive
autopista!!). What kind of advice can you give me? Mechanical things to pay
close attention to? (I'm no mechanic!) Fuel cost estimates? Safety
precautions? Other tricks of the trade?
