II VENEZUELAN CONGRESS OF ECOLOGY University of the Llanos
Ezequiel Zamora (UNELLEZ) Guanare, February 20/26, 1994 PUBLIC
DECLARATION
The participants to the II Congress of Ecology of the Venezuelan
Ecology Society, taking place at the National Experimental
University of the Llanos Ezequiel Zamora (UNELLEZ - GUANARE),
having seen and analyzed the video made by Aldemaro Romero Diaz
and Ignacio Agudo, showing the harpooning and death of a dolphin,
where clear evidence can be found of these actions being
perpetrated with premeditation and for obscure purposes, quite
different from those of a scientific or conservationist nature,
AGREE: 1. To censure Aldemaro Romero Diaz and Ignacio Agudo and
all others who participated in this ecocide. 2. To condemn this
outrageous and evil falsification of a crime against wildlife,
since it lessens the merits of legitimate efforts for
conservation and defense of the environment and natural
resources, and could create resistance in the future to true and
unavoidable campaigns, carried out with ethically correct
methods. 3. To categorically reject all actions of this kind,
since they missrepresent the true nature of the Venezuelan
independent small-craft fishermen. 4. To support the legal
actions, aimed at sanctioning these deeds, undertaken by the
Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture and the
Government of the State of Sucre. 5. To request the exclusion
of Bioma and Fundacetacea from the circles of Venezuelan
conservation organizations. 6. To present this document to
