BIOMA The Foundation for Conservation of Biological Diversity
FOR THE INFORMATION OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC
1. Bioma herewith publicly expresses total rejection of the
actions of Dr. Aldemaro Romero Diaz in promoting the discredit
of our country and prejudicing its legitimate interests within
the international community. Bioma likewise emphasizes its
absolute disagreement with the film in question, never having
authorized its the elaboration and/or promotion at the national
and international level, which exposes the fishermen, the
non-governmental organizations and the people of Venezuela to
international derision.
2. On February 18, 1994, as shown in documents duly
authenticated, Dr. Romero Diaz presented his resignation and
also declared under oath that the Bioma Foundation, Founding
Members, General Members, Honorary Members and Patronizing
Members, as well as the Board of Director had no intervention
nor responsibility in the filming of a video carried out by him
that shows the hunting and death of a dolphin along the coast of
Venezuela.
3. The refered documents were consigned before a Judge of the
Second Justice of First Instance in the Penal and of the
Safeguard of the Public Patrimony and the Second Circuit of
Car£pano, Sucre State that is investigating the case of the
filming of the video.
4. Bioma condemns the abuse of confidence and authority that Dr.
Romero Diaz perpetrated against the personnel under his charge,
hiding his intention of discrediting the country, utilizing the
projection and the resources of the institution at the national
and international level with the exclusive aim of promoting an
activist campaign whose ends are not totally clear.
5. Bioma declares that it is disposed to collaborate as it has
always done with any private organization as well as the with
the State of Venezuela and international organizations with the
object of contributing to the clarification of the situation
and restoration of the image of the country.
6. Bioma appreciates the backing and confidence of our members
and of the Venezuelan community in general. Bioma reaffirms its
compromise to continue working for the achievement of the image
and better destiny that Venezuela without any doubt deserves.
