Background
----------
I am a UCLA student finishing up my MBA in June. I am currently doing
research for a class on Comparative Management Styles. Specifically, my
research will compare Human Resource practices in Mexico, to those in
the U.S. A close friend of mine, who is extremely qualified and a
fluent Spanish speaker, recently went to Mexico City looking for a job.
She was told in several places that "Oh that job is for men only."
I have also been told about several hiring practices
including: personality tests
interviews with the family of a job-candidate
restrictions as to where a person can live before applying
Questions:
----------
Does anyone know of any studies that have been done regarding the
differences in Human Resource Management (hiring, firing, promoting,
training, motivating, etc.) between Mexico and the U.S. ? Any
leads (Books, magazines, etc.) would be great.
Does anyone have any personal stories they would like to share?
The Research
------------
The theme of the research paper will include some thoughts on how/when
the Mexican and U.S. HR practices might be affected as a result of
NAFTA.
Please forward your responses to me directly at cgonzale@agsm.ucla.edu.
Thanks in Advance,
Cecilia Gonzales
