Anthropologists Establish Gift Fund for Travel by Latin American
Scholars.
The Society for Latin American Anthropology (SLAA), a member
organization of the American Anthropological Association (AAA)
has established a gift fund to help Latin American scholars
travel to the AAA meetings in order to make presentations. It
invites anyone interested in helping Latin American colleagues
with their travel expenses to contribute to the fund. The money
in the fund will be used to help permanent residents of Latin
America who otherwise would not be able to contribute the AAA
meetings. The recipients of the aid will be determined each year
by the SLAA Executive Board, after considering all applications.
Needed now more than anything are contributions to the fund by
persons who want to support the wider dissemination of
anthropological research done by Latin Americans. People wishing
to contribute to the fund should send checks payable to the AAA
in US dollars to the Latin American Anthropologist's Travel Fund,
American Anthropological Association, 4350 North Fairfax Drive,
Suite 640, Arlington, VA 22203, USA. Please note on the check
that the contribution is to the Latin American Anthropologist's
Travel Fund. The SLAA board will consider applications for the
use of the fund later this year. It is not sure how much money
will be contributed, so no guarantees of travel support can be
given until money has been accumulated. Permanent residents of
Latin America who are in need of travel money in order to
participate in the AAA meetings may apply later this year to
